THE MOST IMPORTANT VERSES IN THE BIBLE

January 6

God promised Abram (Abraham) that He would have more spiritual children (all believers after Abraham) than the stars. Genesis 15:5-6 are probably the most important verses in the Bible in that it shows that salvation is by faith for the first time.  Here are the first verses in the Bible unmistakably to speak of (1) ‘faith,’ (2) ‘righteousness,’ and (3) ‘justification.'”597 Here we believe that Abraham believed in a Christ to come.  He did not understand it all as the Old Testament progressively revealed more and more prophecies that Jesus would fulfill and then in the New Testament they were finally understood. We need to remember our devotional from yesterday that all Scripture is profitable (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and read all of it, not just the easy parts but plan to read it from cover to cover and get all that God wants us to learn from it. 597Boice, 2:98.

Genesis 15:5-6 Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” 6 And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
