THE HEART OF THE MATTER

December 28

John does not give us any genealogy, no birth narrative, no manger scene, he just cuts to the heart of the matter when he introduces the book with the statement that in the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God and the Word was God.  And if that is not enough in verse two he repeats it again.  In verse three we see that Jesus created everything.  Have you considered the wonderful ways our world works together, the beauty and order of it all? I remember the food chain the solar system, and the hydrological cycle from school, but it really comes alive when you see the beauty and wonder of it all by looking at it through the lens of the Bible. This verse helps you to see the world through the lens of creation rather than the lie of evolution.  When you see a watch you know someone made it, it is the same with everything in our world and universe, without a creator it would not exist and it amazes me how you could see it all and believe that it HAPPENED by chance.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being (John 1:1-3)
