The “promise” in Acts 2:39 is the gift of the Holy Spirit (1:5, 8; 2:33). Peter’s reference to “your children” reveals the strong influence that Jewish fathers exercised in their homes. When a father becomes a Christian, his children would normally follow his lead and become Christians too. Those “far off” probably include the scattered Jews, future generations of Jews, and the Gentiles. Are we influencing our children and grandchildren in such a way that when the Lord calls they respond and believe in Christ as Savior?
For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself. (Acts 2:39)
