The Jews in Berea did not react out of jealousy and start a riot as they did in Thessalonica, but listened carefully to what Paul preached (“received the word”), and compared it to the teachings of their Hebrew Scriptures (“examining the Scriptures daily”). Their example of daily Bible study has inspired Christians ever since to do the same. Anyone who listens to any teaching from the Bible would do well to compare it with Scripture, as these Jews did. Many of these noble skeptics believed because Paul’s teaching was consistent with the Old Testament. We would do well to not do as many do in Bible studies where everyone has an opinion of what this means or listen to just anyone, but be discerning in what and who we listen to and make sure if we hear something that is new or doesn’t ring true to us to search the scriptures to see if these things are true or not. So many have been lured into false teaching today, the Bible says to know what you believe and why. 2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
