Paul finishes up the first three chapters of Ephesians which teach us the truth we need to know as believers to live the Christian life before moving into the last three chapters which tell us how to behave. You have to know how to behave before you can do it. In the verses preceding the ultimate goal of Paul’s request was that his readers might be so full of
the knowledge of Christ’s love and appreciation for God that they might allow Christ to control them fully (3:13-19). Paul in verses 20-21 is praying a prayer of praise knowing that God is able to do far above what he could even imagine in having put Jews and Gentiles together in the fellowship of the church and all that he has prayed for in the previous verses. He is in awe of all that God has done and we should be too. Have we praised God and thanked Him for all that He has done and is doing in our lives and those around us? If not let us do that right now.
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)
