OUR HEART AND OUR MOTIVES

December 4

Here we are told to carefully examine our motives and reasons for all we do because the Lord sure does. Our natural tendency is to justify all we do, but often we are wrong for doing this. David prayed in Psalm 139:23-24 that God would examine His heart and show him any secret or hidden sin in his life. The same thing we justify in our lives, we would be very upset about if someone else did it. We need to understand that God cares more about our heart and the motives with which we do things than the actual act. Are we doing things to be seen or because we really care for others? What is our motive?

Proverbs 21:2-3 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs the hearts. 3 To do righteousness and justice Is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
