In 1 John 2:15-17 John says don’t love the world system of evil and wants that are always wanting more. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life are the three ways the devil always tempts us. It was done in the garden with Eve, and many other places in the Old Testament. It was attempted with Jesus when He fasted 40 days and nights. He never fell prey to the devil’s temptations but fought them with scripture. He set the example of how we can win the battle with temptation too. We need to memorize scripture and remember who God is and that what He has is way better than the devil’s cheap imitation of satisfaction. His goodies always leave us wanting more. Let us remember the words of Ephesians 6:10 and following to verse 21. We are to be strong in the Lord and the power of His Might. Stand, withstand, having done all to stand, stand therefore. We don’t need to win the battle, Jesus already has, so stand strong in His power. Amen!
1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
