Jude would have rather been writing about the good things of the Christian life, but had to write to them about THE FAITH WHICH WAS ONCE FOR ALL DELIVERED TO THE SAINTS. This is not just any faith, but the only faith that is true, THE GOSPEL in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. This is the only ground for salvation, there is no other way to get to heaven (John 14:6). Jude told them to agonize which is in the terminology of the day to strenuously struggle to overcome an opponent as in a wrestling match. It was to use all of one’s energy in order to win. He was telling them to stand on top of the truth of the Gospel and fight to defend and retain it. Jude was concerned as we should be for ourselves and others that we not be led astray by false teachers, but instead to take the initiative to defend THE FAITH. The devil and the world would like nothing better than for us to give up and give in and not fight for the truth. Some things are not worth fighting for, but this is. Will you fight with me to defend THE FAITH?
Jude 1:3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
