Here Paul goes on to finish his thoughts he started in verse 17 about coming to preach and not baptize. He goes on to say that people want to believe there is something they can do to get into heaven. People think they are wise and a crucified Christ does not appeal to that wisdom that they have. It is sad how human self-sufficiency always thinks it is good enough or can find a way to God on its own. God made an end of all that once and for all when Christ died on the cross for our sins. God said there was only one way to heaven and that was through His Son Jesus Christ. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. The one who makes something gets to decide how it goes together or works. God made us, gave us the Bible to be able to come to Him in saving faith and know Him, yet humanity always thinks it is smart enough to get around what God said is true. That is why Jesus said it was hard to get into the Kingdom of God because people refuse to bow the knee to God, ask Him to forgive them and save them on the basis of what Christ did on the cross. We do not want to humble ourselves to anyone. Have you? Will you? If not, you will end up in hell without any hope of getting out. I pray today you will trust Christ if you haven’t. Ask Him to forgive you and save you today.
1 Corinthians 1:18-21 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” 20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
