UNDERSTANDING THE SCRIPTURES

December 28

In Luke 24:44-46 Jesus reminds His disciples of all that He has taught them concerning His fulfilling all that was written in the 3 major divisions of the Old Testament, namely the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms.  He tells them that this fulfillment was a necessity. He then opens their understanding of the scriptures which means He through the Holy Spirit gave them full understanding of all that He taught them concerning why He had to suffer, die, be buried and rise the third day.  Do you know why Jesus had to do these things?  It was so we could be saved.  Unless He accomplished all of these things we could never be saved (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).  That is why when people add to this and say anything else saves you they are to be considered as heretics.  Jesus paid it all. Note this, He again did what we talked about yesterday in explaining the Scriptures.  Unless it is explained and the Holy Spirit gives us understanding we will never understand. Even the disciples didn’t most of the time before Jesus came back from the grave.  Are you depending on God and His Holy Spirit to help you understand the scriptures?  Pray and ask God to help you as you read.

Jesus said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, (Luke 24:44-46)
