ADDING OR TAKING AWAY FROM HIS WORD

March 20

Five times in the Bible God tells us not to add to His word or take anything away from it.  We talked about this earlier in the week how God’s word came directly from Him using human authors to write it. God wrote the Bible so that we would know how to live so as to please Him, what to do, how to do it, plus have access to His wisdom. If we are wise, we would make sure we know the Bible and the God who wrote it well enough that we can do these things. God is so serious about His Word that He writes in Revelation 22:18-19 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Let us be very careful with His word. (Deuteronomy 4:2,12:32; Proverbs 30:6; Ecclesiastes 12:13; Revelation 22:18-19)

You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. (Deuteronomy 4:2)

How important is God’s word to you?
