A NEW HEART AND A NEW SPIRIT

August 5

God’s promise of a new heart and a new spirit was the promise of salvation and the gift of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling in the New Testament Covenant that would also give us the power to live the Christian life. This gift of a new heart and the Spirit’s indwelling also gives us a new want to. We used to want to live for the world and its pleasures, but now we want to live for the Lord and please Him. The Old Testament believer still had these desires and motivations but not the power of the indwelling Spirit to help them accomplish them. Thanks be to God who not only saves us, but gives us the power to live out His life through the Spirit. Has God done this in your life? He will if you ask Him to save you.

Ezekiel 36:26-27 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.
