SPIRITUAL GROWTH

October 13

Paul is praying for the spiritual growth of the Philippians. This growth is to be one that has a greater love based on knowing the word of God. This is a love based on wisdom and discernment that comes only from God. Real love has ours and others best in mind, it does not love things that are not Godly. Real love is based on truth and gives us the ability to choose the best things in this life. His prayer also reveals a heavenly mindset that shows all of this prayer is for us ultimately to be more and more like Christ so that when we stand before God at the judgement seat of Christ to give an account of our stewardship we may hear that “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ (Matthew 25:23) Is this our greatest desire? It should be.

Philippians 1:9-10 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.
