THE FINISHED WORK OF JESUS CHRIST

November 17

In Hebrews 10:14-18 God stresses the finished work of Jesus Christ as our Great High Priest who has offered Himself as a sacrifice with His death on the cross.  He has made all of us who trust in Christ positionally perfect, in other words in the eyes of God He sees us as He would Christ in that we are seen as having never sinned and never, ever sinning again.  This is a great comfort to those of us who know Christ.  We no longer have to worry we will never measure up to God’s standards and if we will make it to heaven.  Jesus paid for all of our sins past, present, and future and through the Holy Spirit is continually making us more like Him if we are obedient to God’s will and word. He has given us a new want to, that is a desire to please Him, a new heart with His love poured out in it to love others, a new ability to do right, and a new power, no longer are we slaves to sin, but have God’s power to say no to sin and yes to right things. Do you know this freedom that comes from trusting Christ as the only way to get to heaven?

Hebrews 10:14-18 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” 17 then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.
