THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT

February 3

Every day we miss the mark on the greatest commandment to Love God like He deserves. He deserves first place in all we do and the way we do it should be pleasing to Him.  The second, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” is quoted from Leviticus 19:18 and is the most often quoted OT command (8 times in the NT), 3 in Matthew alone.  This is one of the most fundamental laws that God has ever given! Who is my neighbor: all people whom I come in contact with and have a chance to help spiritually or contribute to their well-being. These two commands sum up the 10 commandments and should be our first and greatest desire as we start and go through each day.

Matthew 22:36-40 ” 36 Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him,” ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 “This is the first and great commandment. 39 “And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
